New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that the Modi government is firm on the fact that there will be no change in the existing reservation system in the country. He accused the Congress of reducing the quota for SC, ST and OBC by giving reservation to Muslims.
Home Minister Shah mocked opposition leader Rahul Gandhi at an event held in New Delhi and said that he has become ‘arrogant’ after the Congress’ defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. Shah said, ‘The opposition claimed that we will change the Constitution. We have not touched the reservation. Congress gave reservation to Muslims and reduced it for SC, ST and OBC. We have clearly said that we will not tamper with the existing system of reservation.’
Modi government stands by its commitments
Amit Shah said the Congress should remember that the number of seats won by the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was more than the seats won by the opposition party in the last three elections. Shah asserted that the Modi government stands by its commitments, including ‘one nation, one election’, strengthening national security, amending the unconstitutional Waqf Act and making India the third largest economy in the world.

When asked about the allegations in the US court against the Adani Group and the Modi government, Shah said that leaders like Congress and Rahul Gandhi are taking inspiration from foreign institutions, but the Modi government has always made it clear that corruption is not its culture. He said, ‘If they have evidence, why don’t they go to court? What happened to the allegations made in the Pegasus case? If there is any truth in these allegations, there are courts. No one has given any evidence against the Modi government so far.’
Situation improved in Jammu and Kashmir after the removal of Article 370
On the situation in Jammu and Kashmir after the removal of Article 370, Shah said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved in the last one year, more than 2 crore tourists have come, cinema halls have opened, and elections have been held peacefully. He also said that his government is committed to making India free from Left Wing Extremism (LWE) by 2026, and the strength of Naxalites in Chhattisgarh has been eliminated by 70 percent. He said that more than 300 militants have been killed and 900 arrested since the BJP government came to power in Chhattisgarh.
Opposition decided that it will not let the House function
Shah expressed disappointment over the opposition disrupting the winter session of Parliament. He said that the opposition has decided that it will not let the House function. Shah said that the government is ready to discuss every issue. On the proposal of ‘One Nation, One Election’, he also said that this step is necessary for the development of the country and it will save money, as well as people engaged in elections will be able to focus on their main work.
Shah said on Manipur violence – situation will be normal soon
Regarding the ongoing violence in Manipur, Shah said that he is confident that the situation there will be normal soon. On illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, he said that the government has started keeping an eye on it and some state governments see it as a vote bank, which is wrong.
Defended government policies on farmer protest
On the farmer protest, Home Minister Shah defended the government’s policies and said that talks will be held with the farmers as per the instructions of the Supreme Court. Shah further stressed that once the three new criminal laws brought by the Modi government are fully implemented in the country, it will be the most modern criminal justice system in the world.
