The suspense over Maharashtra CM ends, Devendra Fadnavis will be the new Chief Minister, statement of BJP leader

  • December 02, 2024

Mumbai. Devendra Fadnavis will be the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The media has given this news quoting a senior BJP leader. He told on Sunday night that the name of Fadnavis has been decided, who will be elected as the leader of the legislative party in the meeting to be held on 2 or 3 December. Earlier, outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that he would support the BJP’s decision to select the new Chief Minister. The senior BJP leader said, ‘Devendra Fadnavis’s name has been decided as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The meeting of the new legislative party of BJP will be held on 2 or 3 December.’

Even after more than a week of the Mahayuti’s huge victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the new government has not been formed. In the election, BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats. The BJP has announced that the swearing-in ceremony of the new Mahayuti government will be held on December 5 evening at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP is moving cautiously as the aspirations of its allies, especially the Shiv Sena, have risen significantly after the massive victory in the elections.

Different opinions of leaders of allies
Despite Shinde’s emphasis on the unity of the Mahayuti, some leaders of the allies expressed different opinions. Former Union minister and BJP leader Raosaheb Danve said that if the undivided Shiv Sena and BJP had contested the elections together, they would have won more seats. At the same time, Shiv Sena MLA Gulabrao Patil claimed that if Ajit Pawar’s NCP was not a part of the alliance, the Eknath Shinde-led party would have won 90-100 seats in the elections. The Ajit Pawar-led party reacted sharply to this.

Swearing-in will be done on December 5
The BJP Legislature Party meeting to choose the leader has not been held yet. Shiv Sena and NCP have chosen their respective leaders. A senior leader of the Mahayuti said that the alliance partners will decide together whether only the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will take oath on December 5 or ministers will also be sworn in. Shinde had gone to his native village in Satara district on Friday. He developed high fever in the village. There were speculations that Shinde is not happy with the formation of the new government. Talking to journalists in his village on Sunday before leaving for Mumbai, Shinde said, ‘I have already said that the decision taken by the BJP leadership on the post of Chief Minister will be acceptable to me and Shiv Sena. It will have my full support.’
