New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Brazil. On Monday, he attended the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. Here PM Modi met US President Joe Biden. The Prime Minister tweeted a picture with Biden and wrote that it is always a pleasure to meet you. During this, PM Modi met the heads of state of many countries including United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The Prime Minister has reached Brazil for the summit in the second phase of his three-nation foreign visit. PM Modi is on a five-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil and Guyana from 16-21 November. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brazil on Monday after visiting Nigeria. On his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, he was warmly welcomed by the Indian community with Sanskrit chants. This is PM Modi’s third visit to Brazil after the BRICS summit in 2014 and 2019. Last year, India hosted the G20 summit in New Delhi.
The G20 is an international forum consisting of 19 countries and the European Union (EU) members. Its purpose is to discuss and cooperate on the global economy, financial stability, climate change, and other important global issues. The G20 is a group of the world’s major economies and plays an important role in global policy making.
The G20 was formed in 1999 and its main objective was to handle global financial crises and promote economic growth. This conference is held every year and in it the heads of member countries (Prime Ministers, Presidents or their representatives) come together to discuss global issues. The G20 has influence and importance because its member countries account for about 85% of the world’s total GDP and about 75% of global trade.
