New Delhi: Great educationist, ideal teacher, National Convenor of Save Education Movement Dinanath Batra passed away suddenly at the age of 94 on Thursday, 7 November 2024. Dinanath Batra, National Convenor of Save Education and Founder and President of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, was born on 5 March 1930 in Rajnarpur district Dera Ghazi Khan (now in Pakistan) of undivided India.
He has also been the General Secretary of Vidya Bharati, a national voluntary organization and is associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He is known for promoting Hindutva ideas in education. Dinanath Batra, who started his career as a teacher at DAV Vidyalaya Dera Bassi Punjab from 1955, has also served as Principal in Kurukshetra from 1965 to 1990.
He has also been the President of All India Hindustan Scouts and Guides. He was also the General Secretary of Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shikshan Sanstha. Dinanath Batra, who was awarded the President’s Award, has been awarded by many organizations for his dedication to educational work. He has run nationwide movements to promote education, due to which India-centric education has been made the basis of the National Education Policy 2020.
He has been awarded many awards like Swami Krishnananda Saraswati Samman, Swami Akhandananda Saraswati Samman, Bhaurao Deoras Samman. Tomorrow (Friday) from 8 am to 10 am, his body will be kept at the central office of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas in Narayan Vihar, New Delhi for the last darshan.
He is often in controversies due to his views. He is also known for his changes in history and curriculum, which has led to many controversies. He has advocated changes in the history curriculum, according to which Indian history should be presented from a Hindutva perspective. He opposed English medium education and promoted Hindi medium. He demanded changes in textbooks so that more importance can be given to Indian culture and values. He has played a leading role in national and educational movements and has also been jailed several times.
