Kaithal: Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala cast his vote for the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 at a polling booth in Kaithal on Saturday. Talking to the media outside the polling booth after voting, Surjewala made a big statement about the post of Chief Minister. He said, ‘If you did not contest the election, it does not mean that there is no aspiration to run the government. The CM candidate should have a vision to bring change in Haryana and prosperity in the lives of farmers. I have a vision for the development of Haryana. It is not wrong to have the ambition to become the Chief Minister.’
He further said, ‘But personal ambition is not bigger than party discipline. Whatever decision Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge take for the face of the Chief Minister, everyone will accept it. I am also saying this on behalf of Bhupendra Hooda, Kumari Selja and all other colleagues. I want to appeal to the people of Haryana to come out and cast their vote. This vote is for change. People are tired of 10 years of corruption, the condition of farmers, youth, wrestlers and soldiers has worsened. A revolutionary change will be seen.’
‘People want me to become CM’, Anil Vij again claimed to become the Chief Minister
The Congress leader said that my first priority is to develop Kaithal. Let us tell you that Randeep Surjewala’s son Aditya Surjewala is the Congress candidate from Kaithal. BJP’s Leela Ram is contesting from here. Let us tell you that Kaithal has been an old seat of the Surjewala family. Carrying forward the political legacy of his father Shamsher Singh Surjewala, Randeep Singh Surjewala won from here in 2005, 2009 and 2014. But in the 2019 assembly elections, he had to face a close defeat at the hands of BJP’s Leela Ram on the Kaithal seat. Leela Ram had also won the election from Kaithal in 2000 on an Indian National Lok Dal ticket.
Apart from Aditya Surjewala and Leela Ram, there are 10 more candidates, including Satbir Singh Goyat of Aam Aadmi Party, Anil Tanwar of INLD and Bahujan Samaj Party alliance as well as Sandeep Gadhi of Jannayak Janata Party and Azad Samaj Party alliance. In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP won 40 out of 90 seats in Haryana and formed a coalition government with JJP. Dushyant Chautala’s party won 10 seats. Congress managed to win 31 seats. The other 9 seats went to INLD, Haryana Lokhit Party and independent candidates.
