Tirupati temple Prasadam case reaches Supreme Court

  • September 20, 2024

New Delhi: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on the issue of adulteration in Tirupati temple Prasadam. This petition has been filed by Advocate Satyam Singh. He has sought the court’s intervention in this matter. The petition alleges that adulteration in Prasadam violates Hindu religious customs and deeply hurts the sentiments of countless devotees who consider Prasadam a sacred blessing.

The petition argues that this is a violation of Article 25 of the Indian Constitution which guarantees the right to religious freedom including the right to follow religious customs. Apart from this, the petition also cites several decisions of the Supreme Court which emphasize the importance of protecting essential religious practices. Calling the issue sensitive, questions have been raised about the system of temple administration in the petition.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has demanded action against the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on the issue of Laddu. Describing this as hurting the sentiments of Hindus, he said that a big scam has been done in making laddus for the prasadam of Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirupati. Three lakh laddus are made daily and this brings revenue of crores of rupees. The previous government should not be forgiven for this sin. Legal action should be taken against them. Both God and devotees have been deliberately deceived.

Now Andhra Pradesh Congress President and former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister YS Sharmila has written a letter to the Union Home Minister on the claim of adulteration in the prasadam laddu of Tirupati temple. She has requested to order an immediate CBI inquiry into the adulteration in prasadam. On the issue of adulteration in prasadam, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the current government is using God in politics. The former CM said that people are not happy with the 100 days of work of the government. In such a situation, the Chief Minister is making such claims to divert attention from the issue.
